When “to go” = “to say”!
Did you know that in everyday English when we are telling a story about something that happened we often use the verb “go” instead of “say?” It’s true! We use it to quote what someone said:
Every time I go into my favourite bar the barman goes, “Caffè lungo, vero?” He always remembers how I take my coffee.
When I get home my husband usually goes, “How was your day?”
‘The guy walked in and went, “Do you work here? I’m looking for The English Tree.”
