“It beats me!”

 

Although it doesn’t sound like it, this phrase is non-violent! We use it when we don’t know something or don’t understand a situation or a person’s behaviour . Here are some examples:

“It beats me how it snowed in Rome so much last week!”

“They’re cutting trees on the Colombo. It beats me why they don’t repair the holes in the roads first.”

“All the gun crime in American schools….. it beats me why people are still allowed to buy guns.”
