“What did you get up to on New Year’s Eve?”

Here’s a great question with “get” to use!

To “get up to” something simply means to do something. So, “What did you get up to on New Year’s Eve?” is the same as “What did you do on New Year’s Eve?”

Using “What did you get up to?” can also suggest that maybe you did something illicit or surprising. We sometimes say it to children: “What did you get up to when your Mum was out?”

“What did you get up to at the weekend?”

What did I get up to on New Year’s Eve? Well, I went to see the fireworks at Circus Maximus and the Colosseum!
